Abstract

|
CryorectaI surgery is the application of lethally cold temperatures to unwanted anorectal tissues to achieve their destruction. Successful cryodestruction of hemmorrhoids was first reported by Lewis and group in 1969, and K. Lheyd Williams and group reported a small series in 1973.
Use of it in 10 cases is described here and the cryorectal operations in this series were per-formed with a KRYmed proctology probe connected to a hand-held, lightweight instrument attached by tubing to a cylinder of CO2. The functional and anatomical results are sufficiently good to encourage continued clinical application. A brief review of literature was made.
